The California Coastal Commission meets in Long Beach 2/12-2/14. On the agenda was Union Pacific's coastal development permit application to construct several 6 ft tall chain-link fences to block off access to the rec trail, which used to be the old railroad track, in Pacific Grove. The Commission staff report recommended a denial of the application. Surfrider Monterey County Chapter submitted a letter in support of the staff report; California Policy Manager Jen Savage gave a presentation at the meeting, and Chapter volunteers in Pacific Grove delivered flyers in the neighborhoods near the trail - over 60 letters were submitted in support of the staff report - that's trail love! Final verdict: The commissioners voted unanimously to deny the application - yes! The trail remains an important public access and recreational resource for all.
