Straw Free Wharf

Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf Association Announces That Restaurants and Fish Markets on the Wharf Are Going Straw Free

In June of 2018, the Monterey Fisherman's Wharf Association announced that various restaurants and fish markets on the Wharf will begin using paper or reusable straws. Led by the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Monterey Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation is a part of a coalition of organizations encouraging local restaurants, hotels and other businesses to minimize their single use disposable plastics footprint in our region. We applaud the Wharf for wanting to do the right thing for our oceans and limit plastic usage, and for modeling attainable actions for the many visitors who come to enjoy the coast.

Next Time You're At a Restaurant

Remember, most of us are already used to drinking from a glass at home. So, it is not a big deal to enjoy your beverage without a straw. "No straw, please” is the best solution. You can let your server know that you would not like a straw with your drink. Please also remember to show your support to those participating restaurants on the Wharf by telling them that you appreciate their initiative in helping reduce the amount of plastic straws going into the environment.
