CHAPTER MEETING & SALTY SPEAKER RECAP

On Wednesday, June 17, we gathered at Oscar's Playground (top floor, 685 Cannery Row) for an evening of ocean storytelling, wildlife photography, pizza, and community connection.

FEATURED SPEAKERS:
Luke Kilpatrick — Author, diver, and underwater photographer whose Mia Kingtide Ocean Adventures series inspires young readers through marine conservation, science, and adventure.
Learn more about Luke and how he’s running for Sand City Council

Chase Dekker — Monterey-born wildlife photographer, zoologist, and conservationist whose award-winning images of whales, otters, dolphins, and other wildlife have been featured by National Geographic and displayed at the Smithsonian.

The event was free and open to everyone. Pizza slices and non-alcoholic drinks were available for a suggested donation of $5, with adult beverages available at the bar — hosted by our generous venue, Oscar's Playground.

Save the date: our next Chapter Meeting & Salty Speaker Series will be on October 7 at 6PM at Oscar's Playground. More details to come!

Now in its 22nd year, ISD has grown into the largest global activation for Surfrider each year, with more than 100 events taking place worldwide in 2025.
