Close the last coastal sand mine
April 26 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
We have a problem – 700 million pounds of sand are illegally mined from the Monterey Bay Sanctuary every year. It’s mined by the Lapis Lustre Sand Mine. The six-decade-old plant is located on the beach in Marina, California and is currently operated by CEMEX, an international building material powerhouse. CEMEX dredges sand from a large man-made pond on the beach, taking sand that would otherwise build our beaches and coastline.
View a short documentary film on the CEMEX sand mine, made with our friends at Save Our Shores, and join us for a panel discussion of local activists and scientists on how we continue the fight against this single biggest cause of erosion in our coast.
